Arts Camp 2026 - Course Descriptions

 

Music: 

Beginner Piano: Students will learn basic keyboard technique, note reading, rhythm, and simple songs while developing good practice habits and musical confidence. All experience levels welcome. 

 

Sing Out: Solo and Group Voice: 

Develop your vocal skills with sessions on breathing, vocal production, and performance in solo and group settings. Covers diverse music genres. All experience levels welcome. 

 

Dance: 

Exploring Dance Styles: 

Explore jazz fusion, hip-hop, ballet, lyrical, and commercial dance while honing your technique, confidence, and artistry. Practice and refine your skills as you work on audition-quality material in a variety of dance genres. Whether you're new to dance or an experienced performer, all skill levels are welcome! 

 

Theatre: 

Stage Acting and Playwriting:  

Learn acting techniques, improvisation, and playwriting. Engage in games, rehearsals, create original scenes for performance, and workshop your audition material. 

 

Musical Theatre and Improv:  

Combine vocal and acting techniques to explore classic and contemporary musical theatre songs. Includes improvisation and movement, with time to workshop your audition material. Students are encouraged to bring sheet music for songs they wish to perform. 

 

Stagecraft – Designing for Theatre: 

Participants will explore basic concepts in scenic, costume, lighting, and sound design through hands-on activities and collaborative projects. No prior experience is required; the course emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and an understanding of how design supports storytelling in live performance. 

 

Visual Arts: 

Drawing:  

Create eye-catching designs that play with perception. Learn techniques inspired by Optical Art masters to produce dynamic patterns and illusions with movement and depth. 

 

Painting: 

Bring your creativity to life through color! Experiment with blending techniques and brushwork to create expressive landscapes, portraits, and imaginative compositions. 

Cellography to Photography:  

Turn a smartphone into a powerful creative tool! Master lighting, composition, and editing techniques to capture and enhance professional-quality images. A smartphone is required for this session. 

 

Ceramics and Sculpture: 

Transform clay into art! Develop hand-building, wheel-throwing, and sculpting techniques while exploring texture, form, and three-dimensional design. 

Mask-Making:  

Where art and history meet! Research cultural traditions and learn artistic techniques as you design, create, and paint a full-scale papier-mâché mask.  

 

Printmaking:  

Discover the exciting world of printmaking! Experiment with gel printing, image transfers, and traditional techniques to produce bold, one-of-a-kind designs on paper. 

 

Other: 

Poetry and Creative Writing: 
Students will explore basic writing techniques, poetic forms, and imagery through guided exercises, discussion, and sharing of original work. All experience levels welcome; the course encourages creativity, confidence, and the development of each student’s unique voice. 

 

Introduction to Sewing/Fiber Arts: 
Students will learn basic stitches, fabric selection, pattern reading, and simple construction techniques while completing small projects. All experience levels welcome. 

 

Makerspace (Week 2 Only): 
Students will learn basic design concepts, explore how 3D printers work, and build simple robotic projects using beginner-friendly tools and components. All experience levels welcome
