Course Descriptions & Meeting Times

BEGINNERS BOOTCAMP (Morning) - A quick start to plaing bowed string instruments. Students will learn how to hold their instrument, pluck/play simple songs, instrument care, and read music.
CHOIR (Full Day) - Students will be given a crash-course in choral music and group singing, all in one week. All students going into grades 6-12 are invited to sing with us, regardless of prior singing experience. The only prerequisite is a desire to sing and make music with other STL students.
VOICEOVER TECHNIQUE (Morning) - Students will learn the skills involved in voiceover work (articulation, breathing, character, dialects, etc) in order to record a short audio piece.
ACTING FOR THE CAMERA (Afternoon) - Students will be able to understand the stylistic differences between live theatre and camera acting in order to perform a short scene or monologue.
TECHNICAL THEATRE (Morning) - Students will be able to understand concepts of theatrical designs and gain hands-on experience in set, light, and sound design.
BEGINNING STAGE ACTING (Afternoon) - Students study and perform scenes and monologues while learning techniques for stage acting.
EXPLORING CUBISM (Grades 9-12 only, Morning, 1 week): playing with portraits! Students will explore how cubists looked at the world from multiple perspectives. Students will take portrait photos and combine them into multi-faceted brightly colored oil pastel portraits.
EXPRESS YOURSELF (Afternoon, 1 week) Students will explore expressing themselves with COLOR. Impressionist and expressionist methods will be applied with paint.
Jazz Fusion (Afternoons) Jazz Fusion will combine traditional Jazz technique with expressive Hip-Hop flavor and earthly modern elements of movement. The focus is strength conditioning the body beyond the classroom. Be prepared to sweat, tone muscles, and express yourself through dance.
Classical Ballet Technique (Week 1, Morning) - During this 1 week session students will receive an introduction to Classical Ballet Technique with an emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper turnout, coordination of the upper body, and use of the arms.
Musical Theatre (Week 2, Morning) - During this 1 week jazz-based class filled with Broadway style dancing and music. With an emphasis on learning performance skills such as connecting with an audience and facial expressions.
