Chess Club

We are thrilled to be offering an after school Chess Club at GCAA for 6-8th graders. The club will be taught by Jay Brieler, a new parent at GCAA. Jay used to lead the chess club at New City School and has volunteered his time and talents to lead our school’s club this year.

The first session will be this Thursday, September 20, from 3:40 to 5:00 p.m. The club will meet in the North Café. All equipment will be provided. The club will meet each Thursday. We must receive a signed Permission Slip (below) and a signed Conduct Contract (Below) before class starts. All students intending to participate must notify Dan Rubright (via parents) at dan.rubright@grandcenterartsacademy.org prior to the first meeting.

We have room for about 4 or 5 more students and will accommodate applications on a first come first serve basis, so sign up today. This is a great opportunity, a lot of fun and a wonderful learning experience. The class will be no larger than ten students. This group will get to compete in tournaments, while giving our students a chance to get involved in the chess community. New friends will be made, fun will be had.

Perhaps it’s time to take a trip to the World Chess Hall of Fame in the Central West End… You should check it out with your son or daughter-it is really cool and offers some great inspiration for getting into the game.
