Travis Armknecht, 9th grade English

Mr. Armknecht grew up in Nebraska and received his B.A. in Journalism/PR and Theatre Arts from Concordia University there. His initial plan was to work in theater, either as a professional or in higher education, but as graduation came closer, he felt a calling to teach high school. While working in a factory and saving money to return to school for his teaching degree, he got a call from a friend in Indonesia about a drama teaching position that had opened suddenly.  In 2004, he and his wife headed for Indonesia, where they both taught in a suburb of Jakarta for three years. They traveled extensively while there, and still consider it their second home. They returned in 2007 and settled in St. Louis with their two dachshunds and the cat they’d rescued in Indonesia.  Mr. Armknecht received his M.A. from Webster University in Teaching Communication Arts with an emphasis in Media Literacy. He is a member of the Journalism Education Association and the National Council of Teachers of English, and he and his wife are members of the Gateway Lo-Downs, a local dachshund owner’s society and enjoy participating in many events with the group.
