If you noticed that you can see a little better and hear more clearly when students perform in The Sun Theatre, it might be because of the upgrades in audio and lighting equipment made possible by last year’s annual giving campaign. Upgrades included - Apple iMac to control lighting - 3 floor microphones for stage - 3 hanging microphones and cables - Wireless microphone - Lights for stage entrance Dianne Gray, chairman of The GCAA Fund which runs Annual Giving, said “As a public charter school, most of our money comes from The State of Missouri. We get about $8,000 per year for each city resident and a little under $7,000 for students who come from the county. To run a successful school with a dual arts and academic curriculum we need to add charitable donations on top of state payments”. Funds raised by Annual Giving go to projects which build GCAA’s financial strength. Better sound and light equipment improve the theatre experience for our students and their audience. They also make the Sun a more attractive venue for outsiders to rent for their performances. This rental income supports the school over the long term. Gray noted “We have just launched the 2015-2016 Annual Giving Campaign which will feature a giving tree. Parents should look out for information in the mail. You’ll receive a leaf along with more information about the campaign and how to give. When you make your donation the leaf will go up on the tree in the GCAA entry hall with your student’s name on it. Larger gifts will also be honored by a name plate in The Sun Theatre.” Donations can be mailed in, delivered to the school office, or made online at http://www.stlgives.org/give-today/ (select Grand Center Arts Academy as the fund you wish to give to).
