Green Your Holiday’s By Supporting GCAA’s Makerspace
Each year between Thanksgiving and New Years, Americans send an extra five billion pounds of waste to the landfill! Much of this excess waste comes from packaging, wrapping paper, gift boxes, and other recyclables. One easy way to green up your holiday is to donate your used wrapping and packaging materials to GCAA’s Makerspace. Makerspace students will take your holiday trash and transform it into a treasured educational experience!
Makerspace students combine low-tech materials (such as your unwanted Holiday wrapping paper rolls) and high-tech tools to learn design thinking. They use 3D modeling, animation, video game design, programming, and circuitry to create a unique experience and product. By the end of the school year, students see themselves as designers and have an enhanced affinity for science, design, technology, and engineering.
We are inviting all GCAA families to join us on Tuesday, January 13th to learn how Makerspace is having a positive impact on student’s self-perception. Drop in to the Makerspace classroom anytime between 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. to see student projects and participate in making activities. Bring your toilet paper tubes, small clean containers, and other supplies left over from the holidays. We will provide light d’oeuvres and a collaborative spirit!
A full list of supplies needed throughout the year is available at https://gcaamakerspace.wordpress.com/2013/07/24/we-need-your-junk/.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing you in the New Year!
