Note from the Principal

This Note from Principal Matt Frederickson concerns Open House, GCAA Handbook, Extended Day Offerings and Arrival/Dismissal.

Open House:

Parents of high school students are invited to participate in Grand Center Arts Academy’s Fall Open House on Tuesday, August 26 beginning at6:30 p.m. in the Sun Theater.  The night is designed for parents to meet teachers and to learn more about what students will be learning this year.  Attached is a flier that we handed out to students yesterday to fill out and bring home for you to see.  This night is intended for parents and begins at 6:30 p.m. with a short welcome in the Sun Theater followed by a schedule where parents would attend each class in the same order the students do. (see attached schedule.)  The Open House does not allow enough time to address everyone’s specific concerns, but we do encourage you to make an appointment with teachers at a later time, if necessary. Teachers will use their time to communicate information about what your students will learn and do throughout the class.  John Klein, our Site Operations Manager, will be in the front office throughout the night, for anyone needing help with the Parent Portal access to Infinite Campus.

Handbook:

Here is a link to our current Parent and Student Handbook:  http://www.grandcenterartsacademy.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/GCAA-Handbook-14-15.pdf  Teachers have been going over this handbook in class.  Please, take time to go over the contents at home, and then print off the last four pages of the document, sign and initial where noted, and have your student bring to their learning lab teacher by Friday, August 29, 2014.

 Extended Day Offerings:

Attached is a form that teachers handed out to High School Students today to use in selecting an extended day arts opportunity.  Please note the different starting dates depending on the group, and that all students that participate must be picked up no later than 5:00 p.m. We look forward to this new opportunity for our students to go deeper and gain a rich experience with super star faculty.  In order for a student to participate, all necessary signatures on the form must be complete.

 Arrival/Dismissal

Thank you for your help with morning drop off not stopping in front of the school to let your child out.  We have asked that parents dropping students off in the morning pull further west down Grandel and let your student out by the Sun Theater where staff are there to welcome your student.  The purpose of this is to keep Grand from getting backed up and congested.  Also as a reminder for parents to please limit picking up students early from school unless it is for an appointment that cannot be scheduled another time.  Every minute of instruction counts, and our funding is based on student attendance.  We appreciate your help with these items.

It was great to see so many of you at our back to school picnic, and our students are having a wonderful start in the classroom.   I know you join me with excitement as we look forward to a wonderful year!
