Over the weekend, four members of the GCAA Chess Team played in the Girls’ National Chess Championships in Northbrook, Illinois. Competing in (6) three-hours rounds over three days, the group – Isabel Brieler, Sophie Brieler, Mila Schmidt, and Lillian Selligman – won the fourth place trophy in the Under 14 Division of the tournament.
This is the culmination of a very successful season under the leadership of coach Jay Brieler. Since October, the team has brought home 8 trophies, including (3) 1st place awards, 3rd place at State, and this new national honor. We look forward to continuing to build a winning chess tradition at GCAA.
