GCAA competes at Crossroads chess tournament

Last Saturday, October 12, GCAA's sixth grade chess team played in the Crossroads Elementary Tournament at Crossroads College Preparatory School in St. Louis. The first of the Gateway Chess League's annual series of Saturday competitions, the five round tourney drew over 130 K-6 players from schools throughout the region. GCAA's team of three girls  - Mila Schmidt, Lillian Selligman, and Sophie Brieler - placed second in the Sixth Grade and Under division. Sophie also brought home a second place individual trophy for her performance; Mila and Lillian each earned a medal.
GCAA's Chess Team meets on Tuesday afternoons under the leadership of coach Jay Brieler.  They next play at the Gateway League's Fall Open on November 2.
