GCAA staff are eagerly awaiting the arrival of your children on Monday, August 12, our first day of school. Your child needs to be seated in their first period class by 8:00 a.m. You may drop off your child beginning at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast will begin the following week, on Monday, August 19 and will be served between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m.
Mark your calendars for an Open House on Thursday, August 22 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. This is for parents only (not enough room to accommodate students, unfortunately) and will be a chance to follow your child’s schedule and meet all their teachers.
We are still building schedules for each student. You can access your child’s schedule through the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus or your child can pick up a hard copy on Monday morning. If you don’t have a Parent Portal Account you can get your account information at the Open House night on August 22, 2013 at 6:30pm
If you did not come in during the open window of August 1 – August 9, to finalize paperwork, your child will not be allowed to start school on Monday. We cannot complete processing your child’s enrollment, including their schedule until all paperwork is completed.
Dismissal will still happen on the blacktop area east of Powell Hall.
The middle school students a will exit the building at 2:35 p.m. and be escorted by staff across Grand to meet you in your waiting cars on the parking lot.You may enter that parking lot either from the entrance on Delmar or the entrance on Samuel Shepherd. If this early dismissal time for Middle School students creates a hardship for your family, please contact the Middle School Assistant Principal, Mr. Ted Frigillana.
High School students will exit school at 3:30, escorted by GCAA staff to the same parking lot to meet you in your waiting cars.
YOU MAY NOT PICK UP YOUR CHILD IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL ON GRANDEL. It is far too congested in this area and for the safety of your child, you must pick them up on the parking lot behind Powell Hall.
The school building will be closed at 4:00 p.m. each day. We do not have the staffing to provide day care for your child once the school day is over. If you are unable to pick up your child by 4:00 p.m, you must find alternative arrangements either through carpooling, public transit or by contacting some of the local after care programs that will provide van service for GCAA students to their site, (Youth Learning Center and Girls, Inc. are two excellent after school care providers that many of our GCAA students participate in).
Finally, thank you for your patience through this very challenging summer. We are still frantically scrambling to make up for the lost time experienced during the month of June. But we are a happy, happy school right now. Exhausted, but very happy. What will put us all over the moon is when your beautiful children once again make our beautiful building come alive with their joyous voices and smiles. This is going to be a WONDERFUL school year!
