1) GCAA Welcome/Welcome Back Picnic Mark your calendars for the second annual GCAA back-to-school picnic to be held Friday, August 16th, from 5:30-8:30 pm in Forest Park. We had a great time last year, and all families are welcome! The Parents Association will provide the grilled hamburgers and hotdogs as well as plates/silverware. Everyone is encouraged to bring their family?s favorite lawn games. We are asking that potluck items be brought by grade as follows: 6th--hamburger/hotdog buns, sliced cheese, condiments (ketchup, mustard, etc) 7th--side dishes (please mark vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian friends and items with nuts for our friends with allergies) 8th--side dishes (please mark vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian friends and items with nuts for our friends with allergies) 9th--drinks and cups (water, lemonade, juice, etc; please no soda or alcohol) 10th--desserts We are also in need of a few volunteers to help with: grilling at 5 pm setup at 5 pm cleanup at 8:30 pm Please email michelemthomas@hotmail.com if you can help with this event, or if you have any questions. Our location will be picnic pavilion #11. Enter the park on Wells Drive, off Skinker Blvd. in the southwest corner of the park, and look for the sign for #11 on your left. This will be into the park a little bit, but before the zoo. This link will take you to an interactive map of Forest Park: http://www.forestparkforever.org/experience/destinations-2/ Hope to see you all there! 2) PA Meeting Information--CHANGE IN DAYS Parent Association meetings will be held on the 1st Tuesday of the month this year. This is a change from our Monday meetings, and was done to accommodate requests from members. The meeting will be at the same time and place--6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the GCAA North Cafeteria. Our first PA meeting will be on Tuesday, September 3rd. All GCAA families are part of the PA and we encourage you to attend the meetings to hear administrative updates, learn about our various committee and volunteer opportunities, and take advantage of this opportunity to get to know other GCAA families. 3) GCAA Logo Items for Sale The PA sponsored school store will be back in August with more logowear, including t-shirts, zip-up hoodies and tank tops. We?ll continue the light blue color, and add black for the fall. We will continue to expand our selection of both styles and colors over the next year. Look for these items as soon as they?re in, hopefully at new student orientation, the back to school picnic, and the PA meetings starting in September. Shirts and tanks are $15, hoodies are $25. 4) Reminder for BYOP This Friday!!!! The GCAA Parent Association will be hosting a B.Y.O.P. (Bring Your Own Picnic) event on August 2nd from 5-9 at the Greens (grassy area across from the school). Everyone is encouraged to bring your blanket and pre-cooked picnic dinner. (Sorry no cooking allowed.) If you have a student who plays an instrument have them bring it along. We will have music available to dance and sing to for everyone! Also we will be playing some minute-to-win-it and community building get-to-know-you games. Rain or shine this event will take place!
