6th Grade Visual Artists Take Top Honors at Picture the Music Contest

The St. Louis Symphony’s Volunteer Association held its annual 2013 Picture the Music Contest on February 28, 2013. Now in its 23rd year, Picture the Music invites students from across the St. Louis area to listen to a specific symphonic music selection and then create their own artistic interpretations through paintings or drawings. Three of Grand Center Arts Academy’s 6th grade students, under the direction of art teacher Megan Clayton, made the distinguished Top 100 list: Tashaura Cummings, Nakai Woods, and Elise Palmer. Elise received additional recognition for having the best artwork out of all the 6th Grade students that competed.  She was given an engraved medallion to remember the event. Art from our 6th grade visual artists will travel to the following locations:
  • February 28-March 1: Powell Hall
  • March 9-10: Powell Hall
  • March 11-21: Plaza Frontenac
  • March 22-March 31: St. Louis Public Library Schlafly Branch
  • April 2-16: St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre
  • April 17-25: The Magic House
