Thanks to a grant from the Target Corporation, 70 8th and 9th grade students will attend THE MOUNTAINTOP by Katori Hall on Wednesday, February 20 at 10:00 a. m. at The Black Rep. THE MOUTAINTOP imagines Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s final night on earth. The play is a conversation between King and a maid in the Lorraine Motel, who arrives to serve him coffee. The play is a powerful tribute to Dr. King, as well as an important lesson on the Civil Rights Movement. It won numerous awards, including the Olivier Award for Best Play in the United Kingdom. It also recently enjoyed a successful run on Broadway with Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead roles. Parents with students selected to attend the play should have received letters that were sent home with students last week.
