GCAA is one of eight area high schools selected to participate in Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' METROYOUTH Shakespeare Project. We are pleased to announce that Shakespeare Festival St. Louis had a successful fundraiser on Kickstarter, raising $10000 to fund the project. Some of our students will be cast in a scene from TWELFTH NIGHT that they will perform along with students from the seven other high schools in April. A few of our students will also be cast in WINNING JULIET, a new play being developed by the Festival about the devastating effects of gossip among teen girls. GCAA Theater Instructor Emily Kohring will be directing WINNING JULIET. Both these events will happen in April 2013--stay tuned for more information! 4. Our newly-formed Theater Parents' Group is helping us with a big project on December 1st from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. We need volunteers to help clean up and organize the various props, costumes, furniture and other supplies we've received through donations from various groups. Parents and students who would like to volunteer can contact Mr. Conners or Mrs. Kohring and let us know. Though it will be dusty work--we promise fun and doughnuts! The GCAA Theater Department has lots of good news to share . . . 1. Can we have a drum roll, please? We are pleased to announce upcoming auditions for our school play, SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL by John Olive, adapted from the popular book by Louis Sachar. Save the dates--the production will run in the 6th floor Studio Theatre on January 25 and 26, 2013. Auditions will be held Tuesday, November 13 through Thursday, November 15 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm in the small theater studio, Room 308R. Students will be asked to prepare a one-minute monologue. We will be casting up to 17 students in various roles in this hilarious and quirky production. Rehearsals will be held after school Mondays-Thursdays beginning November 26 (excluding Winter Break and MLK Day). Any student auditioning must read the attached audition information and rehearsal schedule. It is very important that all students who are auditioning understand the expectations and the commitment required to participate in a theater production. The students and their parent or guardian MUST sign the production commitment form and return it to Mr. Conners or Mrs. Kohring before they can sign up for an audition time, no exceptions. You can click here to download the audition information packet, and they will also be distributed in theater classes this week. PRODUCTION COMMITMENT FORM AND REHEARSAL CALENDAR All students in Grades 7th - 9th are welcome to audition. We are seeking students to work backstage, too! Students and parents are welcome to attend an informational meeting about the production on Wednesday, November 7 from 4:00-4:45 in Room 308, the small theater studio. Students are highly encouraged to attend this meeting, especially if they have not auditioned for a play before. Contact Mr. Conners or Mrs. Kohring with any questions.
