Congratulations to GCAA Fine Arts students Zoë Achilleus, Joerdan Carney, DeMarco Saffold and Julian Faulkingham for being four of twelve Saint Louis metropolitan high school students accepted into the 2012-2013 Craft Alliance Crafting-A-Future mentoring program. These students have been selected to “work closely with local artists in Craft Alliance’s jewelry/metalsmithing, fiber, clay, and graphics studios to develop a body of work. In addition to their studio work, students are exposed to the work of nationally/internationally known artists through exhibitions and lectures. Craft Alliance challenges the students throughout their study to develop their technique and concepts, exhibit their work, and build a portfolio in preparation for post secondary education.”
The first session took place last Saturday, Oct. 13, and included a presentation from the Kansas City Art Institute. One of last year’s graduates of the CAF program received a full scholarship to attend this prestigious liberal arts university. CAF classes take place on Saturday afternoons during the school year at the Craft Alliance Kranzberg Arts Center in Grand Center, and each year culminates with an exhibition of student work.
